Assassin, 2018, polyester resin

This sculpture recounts the assassination of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andres Karlov at the inauguration of an exhibition in 2016 by a off-duty Sunni police officer, Melvut Mert, who was protesting the Russian bombings in Syria. I subvert the meaning of the monument by placing the criminal on the pedestal, while reducing the importance of the hero in scale and placement. Furthermore, tragic events become cannon fodder in the virtual world of pop culture.
